As of July 31st, the 2023-2024 membership year will come to a close, marking the beginning of a new year for members. Each year brings in the next generation of the industry we know and love. Membership in Tennessee FFA is currently at an all-time high. We have a total of 33,465 members in our state associations, making us the seventh largest out of the 52 State Associations.
With so many members, what can they do to continue their journey in FFA?
This was a question I once had as well. I remember my first encounter with FFA. I had heard about a competition called horse judging and decided to attend a meeting at Mrs. Coats' classroom in August 2022. I felt lost and unsure, but I didn't let that stop me. I kept attending practices, honed my judging skills, and eventually found my place in FFA.
Everyone has a different story. Mine started with horses and led to numerous opportunities, including participating in over 8 competitions in two years and running for regional office. FFA has truly changed my life, answering one of my biggest 'what if' questions.
I know that there may be a member reading this right now, hesitant to take the first step. I want to tell you that I am here for you because I was once in your shoes. All it took for me was for someone to guide me and for me to take a leap of faith.
The future of Tennessee FFA is promising. Each region is led by six dedicated regional officers, and the state is guided by exceptional state officers. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. You have a supportive community that is always ready to assist and guide you.
I believe that the Tennessee FFA's large membership has the potential to make a significant impact. It's exciting to think that the future business, medical, legal, and marketing professionals, among others, are already part of our organization. It's even possible that a future President of the United States is currently wearing the Blue Jacket.
FFA is not limited to farmers and country folks. When I joined, I had no interest in agriculture, but my perspective has changed over the past two years. FFA is inclusive and beneficial for everyone.
FFA is for everyone, and it shapes the future. I love seeing individuals enter FFA with questions and leave with so much knowledge. If you've read this and have never been part of FFA, I encourage you to consider joining. When I advocate for joining FFA, I truly mean it.
In closing, I want to encourage you to take a chance and step out of your comfort zone. That one step WILL change your life for the better.
